Five after-school snacks your kids will love
If you’re anything like us, snacks can be a bit of a last-minute affair. We tend to crack out the same old faithfuls day after day – and while there’s no harm in relying on the classics, it’s always good to change things up once in a while.
Here are some brilliant new recipes for you to try – and the best thing is that they’re all ridiculously easy to make.
Rainbow fruit skewers with vanilla and honey yoghurt dip
For some reason, all fruit seems to taste better when it’s served on a stick. Fruit kebabs are also great fun to make. This one is served with a yoghurt and honey dip, but if you fancy giving them an extra treat, it’s also delish with Nutella.
No-bake healthy cookies
These cookies have no added sugar – they’re naturally sweet from the delicious combination of dried figs, raisins, shredded coconut and oats. Plus, you don’t need to bake them! What’s not to like?
These look incredibly impressive, but you can whip them up in minutes when your little tykes walk through the door. Just add some grated cheddar, tomato puree and salami to a wholemeal pitta and stick it under the grill. Who can resist a pizza? Not us.
Hot-pink fruit smoothie
This smoothie gives your wee ones the fruit boost they need after a long day of learning. We love this one as the yoghurt gives it a lovely creaminess, as well as an extra calcium hit. And the great thing about a smoothie is that the kids can unleash their creativity by making their own signature smoothie and choosing their own fruits to go in the blender.
Crunchy caramel popcorn
Who needs the cinema, when you can get popcorn like this at home? This is the perfect Friday night treat to top off the first week back at school. It’s ok to indulge every now and again, right?
