We don’t know about you but here at Mummies Club our skin is suffering the winter blues. One minute it is bitterly cold and then the next back to low double figures on the outdoor thermometer and this is causing havoc with our skin. Who better for us turn to than our very own Mummies Club business owner Alley Burkin who owns Kalinka Skin Care. So we issued the SOS and she has come to the rescue with 5 easy and effective recipes for homemade face toners to help us all nourish our skin. There are different ones to choose from as let’s face it we all have our own quirks about what smells we do and don’t like! Pick one or work through them all and bring your tired winter skin back to life – thank you Alley!
#1 Quick-Fix Minty
Pour water over fresh mint leaves, leave it to infuse. You even can use a mint tea bag if your mint pot on your windowsill is looking as tired as your skin! Strain the mixture. Let it cool and you are ready to go.
#2 Coconut Water Toner
This one is a no brainer really – grab some coconut water, add a little of lime juice and voila! It tones your skin, treats the dark spots and even nourishes the skin too. Especially great for normal and dry skin types.
#3 Juice Water Toner
A little more time consuming but so worth it!! You will need 2 cups, one spearmint teabag and 1 chamomile teabag. Make an infusion, leave it for 10 mins. In the meantime mix ¼ cup of fresh carrot juice, ¼ cucumber juice and ½ fresh lemon juice. Mix it all together with the infusion and you have created yourself an antioxidant toner which is perfect to look after your skin and keep it glowing!
#4 After Sun Toner
Heat 2/3 cups of coconut milk with 1tbs dry lavender and 1tbs dry lemon balm. Let it cool down, strain and keep in the fridge and use it as and when you need it.
#5 The Master Toner
It does what it says on the tin, suitable for all skin types, lightly scented and beautifully moisturising thanks to awesome essential oils. You need 1 cup of rosewater, add 5-7 drops lavender essential oil, 1-2 drops geranium essential oil, 1-2 drops patchouli essential oil and 1-2 drops of wild orange essential oil. Mix it, shake it, use it. All the properties of this wonderful essential oils in one bottle will look after you perfectly.
All of these toners should be applied to a clean face using either a cotton wool pad or just spray lightly onto your face.
